Installation impossible?

Hi,

tnx for your work. Unfortunately, it's not possible to test and evaluate this software, because i can't install it. My machine runs Win98SE german, and i'm pretty sure that have installed

- wmi9x.exe (1.5)
- MDAC_TYP.EXE (2.80)
- dotnetfx.exe (2.0)
- InstMsiA.Exe (2.0)

and have Internet Explorer 5.5. Trying to install SOSOS after some seconds the message "Ein an das System angeschlossenes Geraet funktioniert nicht" is displayed, which can roughly be translated to "a device connected to the system doesn't work properly". Do you have any idea ore tips to work on this?

Hummm... that is a bit odd.

Let's try this... instead of the pre-packaged SetupSOSOS.exe file, try the MSI file instead: http://www.sosos.emmet-gray.com/Files/SetupSOSOS.msi

OK, let's try ... result - a Windows error message box:

There is a problem with this WIndows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact yor support personnel or package vendor.

p.s. Maybe I should end my Win98 period at last ...

OK, you're right... I can't install either the EXE or MSI version of the Setup files on Windows 98.

I'll continue to work on this, but meanwhile, I've added another download link to just get the contents of the Install package. This was probably a good idea anyway, since they may be others who would want to try the application out, but without having to install anything.

So, just download the following zip file, extract to any directory, and just double click on the SOSOS icon to launch the application.

this runs well. I was able to configure and collect information. If you are interested, i'll check the report and will list any errors or uncommon results.
